Our Story

Rooted in Tradition. Roasted for Today.

Welcome to Alamura Coffee. I’m Behulum—but most people call me B (yes, like the letter 😊).

I was born and raised in Hawassa, Ethiopia, a place where coffee isn’t just a drink—it’s a way of life. In 2017, I moved to the U.S. and now call Burlington, Vermont home. By day, I work for a local credit union. In my free time, I create mural and canvas art inspired by East African culture—and I roast some of the finest Ethiopian coffee you'll ever taste, right from my home.

Our Story

At Alamura Coffee, our story begins in the highlands of Ethiopia—the birthplace of coffee and a land where hospitality is deeply rooted in everyday life.

Growing up in Hawassa, sharing coffee wasn’t just a daily routine—it was a tradition, a ceremony, and an invitation to connect. Around the bunna (coffee) table, stories were told, laughter echoed, and communities came together. That spirit of connection shaped who I am—and what Alamura Coffee is all about.

When I moved to the U.S., I brought more than just memories. I carried with me the rich aromas of freshly roasted beans, the rhythm of the jebena bubbling over charcoal, and the deep sense of warmth and belonging that comes from a traditional Ethiopian coffee ceremony. I wanted to share that feeling—and that’s how Alamura Coffee was born.

Why “Alamura”?

The name Alamura comes from a mountain in my childhood neighborhood in Hawassa. It’s a place close to my heart—filled with vibrant markets, the chatter of familiar voices, and the ever-present aroma of fresh coffee drifting through the air. For me, Alamura means home, family, and the rich traditions that first sparked my love for coffee.

Our Mission

At Alamura Coffee, our mission is simple:
To bring you exceptional Ethiopian coffee—while honoring the farmers, families, and communities who grow it.

We source our beans through trusted export partners in Ethiopia, working directly with smallholder farms in regions like Sidama, Yirgacheffe, and Harrar. These farmers have cultivated coffee for generations using traditional, sustainable methods that preserve both the land and the exceptional quality of the beans.

Why Ethiopian Coffee?

Ethiopia isn’t just the origin of coffee—it’s where coffee grows wild and free. Thanks to the rich soil, high altitudes, and unique microclimates, each region offers its own distinct flavor story:

We hand-select our beans and roast them in small batches right here in Burlington, Vermont to bring out their unique flavor profiles. Every sip of Alamura Coffee carries the soul of Ethiopia—inviting you to slow down, connect, and enjoy.
